I have been a fan of American chopper since the series started. As a former biker, I loved the whole environment of the shop, designing and building bikes. The star was Paul Jr. Paul Sr. never realized this, even today. American chopper would have never hit the big time that it did without Paul Jr's designs. It was the Fire Bike and the Black Widow Bike that Paul Jr. designed that brought them real notoriety. Without those bikes American chopper might not have had such a big audience. It was the design of the bikes by Paul Jr, that let to American Choppers meteoric rise and success.
Yes Paul Sr. ran the business side and yelled a lot. Paul Sr. did build the POW/ MIA bike which I love. So I'll give him credit for that. I love the POW/MIA bike and have a model of it on my desk at work. That is a lovely bike.
What else was appealing about the show? The builds. With Vinnie DiMartino and Paul Jr. designing and building bike after bike and having them come out spectacular each time was a big draw for me. I think the nicest bike they produced was the I Robot bike,
Paul Teutul Sr. is the big man of the business. And he has no idea who really brought the business into OCC. The bikes he builds now are designed on a computer (remember I am a 3D artist) and the bikes have lost their soul.
Vinnie was the workhorse of OCC. The Teutul's could all go to the big unvielings and Vinnie would be back at the shop working on the next build. Vinnie left OCC to start his own business V Force Customs.
Rick Petko was another workhorse. Building beautiful gas tanks for the choppers. I am worried about rick now watching whats happening to OCC
Yes the family side of the American Chopper with the arguments and all were great to watch. But I loved the bikes.
I wish Paul Jr. and Vinnie well in their new endeavours.
Last but not least is Mikey Teutul. He is hilarious. Mike, just leave and start your own TV show. I'll watch it.
